Is the optical modem connected to the switch or the router first

Connect the router first.

The optical modem is connected to the router first and then to the switch, because the router needs to allocate ip, and the switch cannot, so it must be placed behind the router. If password authentication is required, of course, first connect to the WAN port of the router, and then connect to the switch from the LAN port.

How the light cat works

The baseband modem is composed of sending, receiving, control, interface, operation panel, power supply and other parts. The data terminal device provides the transmitted data in the form of a binary serial signal, converts it into an internal logic level through the interface, and sends it to the sending part, modulates it into a line request signal by a modulation circuit, and sends it to the line. The receiving unit receives the signal from the line, restores it to a digital signal after filtering, inverse modulation, and level conversion, and sends it to the digital terminal device. An optical modem is a device similar to a baseband modem. It is different from a baseband modem. It is connected to an optical fiber dedicated line and is an optical signal.

Is the optical modem connected to the switch or the router first

The difference between optical modem, switch and router

1. Different functions

The function of the optical modem is to convert the signal of the telephone line into the signal of the network line for use in the computer’s Internet;

The function of the router is to connect multiple computers through a network cable to realize a virtual dial-up connection, automatically identify the sending of data packets and address allocation, and has a firewall function. Among them, multiple computers share a broadband account, the Internet will affect each other.

The function of the switch is to connect multiple computers with one network cable to realize the simultaneous Internet function, without the function of a router.

2. Different uses

When the optical modem accesses the optical fiber at home, the switch and router work on the LAN, but the switch works on the data link layer, and the router works on the network layer.

3. Different functions

Simply put, the optical modem is equivalent to a subassembly factory, the router is equivalent to a wholesale retailer, and the switch is equivalent to a logistics distributor. The analog signal transmitted through the ordinary network cable is converted into a digital signal by the optical modem, and then the signal is transmitted to the PC through the router. If the number of PCs exceeds the connection of the router, you need to add a switch to expand the interface.

With the development of optical fiber communication, part of the optical modems used by operators now have routing functions.
